Biography

Dr. Russell A. Pointer, Sr. was born on August 24th, 1964, to George and Elizabeth Pointer, and he is the fourth of five children. He is a native of the Bronx, New York. 

Dr. Pointer was called by the Great God above to preach His word at the age of 11. 

 

He was brought up in the Harlem Church of Christ under the mentorship of his spiritual father, the Late Dr. R.C.Wells, Minister Emeritus, and he has also spent time in Montclair, New Jersey, where the Late Bro. Howard Johnson was the minister. It was apparent that God's hand was upon this man's ministry, even at the age of 11. He has traveled from East to West and from North to South to spread God's Word. He has preached nationally and internationally. He served a five-year term as an IRB Board Member at Meharry Medical College, Nashville, Tennessee.

 

Dr. Pointer's advanced education consists of many schools: Southwestern Christian College, University of Mississippi, Abilene Christian, University of Phoenix and Omega Bible Institute and Seminary. While at Southwestern Christian College, he had the opportunity to work under the great Dr. J.S. Winston, founder of the Sound Doctrine Foundation, and he was granted the G.P. Bowser Preaching Scholarship Award.  He also became a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. Dr. Pointer also earned his Master's and Doctorate in Ministry from Omega Bible Institute & Seminary in Swartz, Louisiana. In addition, in 2010, he received an honorary doctorate from the National Academy of Christian Studies in Fort Worth, Texas.

 

 Dr. Russell A. Pointer Sr. stepped out on faith to build and fill a void in a new location of God's work in the Antioch, Tennessee area in 1998. Only eight members were present at this location to help him begin this work. Since starting the ministry in that area, the congregation increased from two homes to two storefronts and to one new edifice that accommodated seating for over 500 persons. 

This "Man of God" has taken the "Church beyond the realm by providing a vision to evangelize, enlighten, embrace, encourage, equip, empower and exalt the people of God."

 

Dr. Pointer currently resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with his wife Evangeline, where he is an Elder and the Senior Minister of Minneapolis Central Church of Christ. In the Minnesota community, Dr. Pointer is currently serving a term as a member of the Governor's Council for Age-Friendly Minnesota. He served on the board of the Hennepin County Sheriff's African American/Social Religious Leader Council.  He served as a proud member of the Hennepin County Sheriff's Community Advisory Board and Bridges to Reconciliation (2017-2019). Dr. Pointer has been voted to the Board of Directors for the Harrison Neighborhood Association 2016-2022. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Light and Salt Gospel Media Ministry (2017-Current). He also serves as a Member of the CECLE Cultural Ethnic Communities Leadership Council 2015-2021. Dr. Pointer is on the executive leadership team for the Zeta Nu Sigma chapter for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. for members at large. He is also on the board as the action counselor for the Lynwood Neighborhood Association, and he is on the membership board for the Hope United CDC. Dr. Russell A. Pointer Sr. has served as the Sr. Pastor of,  Minneapolis Central Church of Christ (MCCC) for a decade and looking forward to the next.

We believe that salvation unto our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is obtain by: 
Hearing the scriptural Word of God (Romans 10:17; Acts 15:7).
 
Believing the scriptural Word of God with all your heart (Romans 10:9, 10).
 
Repenting or changing your mind away from sin (Acts 17:30, Romans 2:4)​.
 
Confessing Jesus Christ to be the son of Living God (Romans 10:9, 10).
 
Being baptized in the watery grave of baptism (Romans 6; 3, 4; Galatians 3:27).
 
In baptism, the believer is washed, sanctified, and justified ( 1 Corinthians 6:11).
 
Christ saves the baptized person in baptism (1 Peter 3:21).
When this process is follow, God then adds you to the body of Christ (Acts 2:47).
